MEDUSA BRASSICA
AN URBAN ATB
I designed the Brassica with the mean streets of Manchester in mind. We often see the urban cyclists of today cutting about the city on vintage mountain bike frames, they are practical and simple to maintain -- I wanted to express those virtues in the Brassica's design. A Reynolds 631 tubeset is ideal for cruising in comfort and offers optimum durabilty. It's a practical workshorse, and a blank canvas, ready for the rider to leave their mark.
The Brassica works best with a 650b wheel, and has ample clearance for 50mm wide tyres, however, chunkier tyres could probably be squeezed in. The frame is made to work with a front derailleur and disc brakes, it also has mounts for full-length mudguards and pannier racks front and rear. There is nothing stopping the rider from building the Brassica into a touring bike, its a well equipped frameset perfectly suited to soaking up the miles. Every Brassic also comes ready for internal dyanmo cable routing.
The seat post colar and headtube feature hand-cut bilaminate sections, giving the frame a classic look, as well as some extra durability. But even with these vintage-esque flavours, the Brassica frameset remains a thoroughly modern design, featuring a 3D printed chainstay yoke, and UDH dropouts (bike photographed here not equipped with UDH dropouts).
With the Brassica, I wanted to offer something more affordable. The frameset is available on a semi-custom basis, with set sizing, but the option for additional or personal specification of braze-ons. A choice of a single custom colour is included in the price.
At the 2026 Bespoked UK show in London, the Brassica prototype won the 'Best in Show' award. The bike's modesty and attention to detail is what attracted the judge's eye, it looked great adorned with accessories and trinkets, fitted to the bike by its rider, Annie. She really made the bike her own!

- 68mm BSA bottom bracket shell.
- 142mm x 12mm rear dropouts.
- 100m x 12mm front dropouts.
- ISO disc brake mounts.
- Going forward, Brassica frames will be specified with UDH dropouts.
