After re-discovering a love for road cycling in the winter of 2024, I decided that my next show bike should be a road bike. I wanted to address the shortfalls of the road bikes I had ridden in the past – grim winter commutes with substandard battery powered lights needed to be a thing of the past, and adequate clearance for full-length top quality mudguards would be essential. The solution was found in fully internal dynamo cable routing and aluminium Portland Design Works colour matched mudguards, decked out onto a Reynolds 931 stainless steel tubeset.
The Medusa Swale was conjured up and proved to also be a chance to play around with some out-there paint design. A brass/ gold metallic paint job to match as closely as possible the bike’s set of Velocity Blunt SS rims was sprayed on, and combined with a deep metallic Baltic blue colour for a nice contrast. Oak leaves were painted by hand in colours to compliment some new-old-stock Brooks leather handlebar tape I had stashed away. At the show, the bike won the vote for the People’s Choice award.
Prices for the Medusa Deka Rando-Trail bespoke frameset start at £3600 and specification for full bike builds can be discussed, as required.
